By Bhauch Prasad Yadav, Kathmandu, July 23:

Construction of structures, including the Miteri Bridge at Rasuwagadhi on the Nepal-China border, which was washed away by the severe floods and landslides of July 8, has started.

The Department of Roads has stated that work on the construction of a Bailey bridge at Lhendekhola in Rasuwagadhi has begun.

Department spokesperson Prabhat Kumar Jha said that the construction of structures, including a Bailey bridge and roads that were washed away by floods and landslides, has begun at the site of the Friendship Bridge on the Nepal-China border.

According to him, the Chinese government has started the construction.

The trade border with China was closed after floods in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa washed away the Miteri Bridge and the Syafrubesi-Rasuwagadhi road section.

The floods and landslides had washed away about one kilometer of the road from Syafrubesi to Rasuwagadhi at various places, causing traffic from Syafrubesi to Rasuwagadhi to come to a standstill.

Similarly, the floods and landslides on the same day also damaged the 25-kilometer road leading from Rasuwagadhi to Kerung.

Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Devendra Dahal made this request to Ambassador Chen during a courtesy meeting between Minister Devendra Dahal and Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chen Song at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport in Singha Durbar on July 17.

Ambassador Song expressed commitment to install and replace the Bailey bridge in the place where there used to be a Bailey bridge and brought the commute into operation before Dashain.

China commits to complete building structures by August 15

Chief District Officer Arjun Poudel of Rasuwa said that the Chinese side has informed that the construction of structures, including a Bailey bridge in place of the Miteri Bridge washed away by the floods and landslides, will be completed by August 15.

According to him, China is working at a rapid pace as per its commitment.

Chief District Officer Poudel informed that small vehicles, including buses, have now been allowed to operate while heavy vehicles are redistricted as of now on the Syafrubesi-Rasuwagadhi road.
