President Bhandari returns home from China

KATHMANDU, May 1: PresidentBidyaDevi Bhandari returned home on Wednesday morning.

The president abridged her visit to the northern neighbor after she suffered from high altitude sickness while in Lhasa, the capital of Tibetan Autonomous Region of China.

Earlier, she was scheduled to come back home on Thursday morning.

Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister KP SharmaOli, cabinet ministers and high-ranking government officials welcomed the president at theTribhuvanInternational Airport.

Earlier today, Nepal’s Ambassador to ChinaLeelaManiPaudyal, Consul General to LhasaGovindaBahadurKarkeeand Executive Vice-chairman of the Government of TAR JiangJieand Chinese Ambassador to NepalHouYanqi bid farewell to the Nepali delegation at the Lhasa Airport.

President Bhandari had left for the state visit to China on April 24. During her visit, Bhandari attended the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation and addressed the same forum held in the Chinese Capital Beijing.

On her way to Beijing, the president made a stopover in Xi’an, the capital city of Shaanxi Province.

This was the first state visit of the Nepali head of the state to the northern neighbor since Nepal became Federal Democratic Republic following the overthrow of Monarchy in 2008. The president visited China at the invitation of her counterpart Xi Jinping.

She also attended the banquet hosted by her Chinese counterpart. The president attended the Opening Ceremony of International Horticultural Exhibition and visit Nepali pavilion there.

President Bhandari held bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi in Beijing.

The two presidents also witnessed the signing of seven different agreements including Protocol on Implementing Agreement on Transit Transport during the visit.

President Bhandari also addressed the joint meeting of the business community from Nepal and China.

Bhandari flew to Lhasa on April 30 on her way back home.

President Bhandari was accompanied by Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep KumarGyawali, Chief Minister of Province No.3 Hon.DorManiPaudel, Federal Parliament members, high-ranking government officials, Nepal’s ambassador to China, representatives of the private sector and media persons.
